Information Technology Services brings USC together for online learning

When COVID-19 threatened to disrupt USC’s family ties and sense of connection this semester, experts in USC Information Technology Services quickly stepped in.

They had to provide a virtual space online where Trojan students, faculty, staff and alumni could get together while they stayed physically apart. And they had to do it fast.

“We moved up to fifth gear in March, and we haven’t really backed down from there,” said Veronica Garcia, associate chief information officer of application services. “Last semester was the disruptor, and it was about reacting and learning how to be online. This semester, we knew we had to provide more.”

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ringgit-to-Ringgit voucher funding by Shopee and the Government via Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) for the Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) Shop Malaysia Online initiative has generated over RM200 million in sales by local retailers and traders on the e-commerce platform as of Aug 31.

In a campaign mid-point review today and the launch of its annual signature shopping event 9.9 Super Shopping Day, Shopee revealed that the vouchers have been enjoyed by close to 2 million Malaysians who took advantage of the savings and cashback on home and living, health and beauty, toys, groceries, automotive, mobile and gadgets.

Apple AirPods and other smart ‘hearables’ are ruling the wearable tech market

Shipments of wearables grew 14.1% in Q2 2020 but a lot of that growth was driven by strong demand for ‘hearables’ like Apple’s AirPods. 

Global shipments of wearables rose to 86.2 million in the second quarter or 14.1% year on year, according to analyst firm IDC. 

Wearables bucked the downward trend in the much larger smartphone category, which saw shipments decline by 14% in Q2 to 285 million units, according to a recent report from analyst firm Canalys.

But, according to IDC, the main driver for growth in wearables in Q2 were “hearables” like Apple’s AirPods and AirPods Pro, as well as rival products from Samsung and Xiaomi. Shipments of gadgets like AirPods grew 32.6% and accounted for 60% of all wearables in Q2 2020.
