The Brief: This wireless charger by mophie is a must-have smartphone accessory for the new reality we live in.
We live in a time when sanitizing and disinfecting have become part of our daily routines. As one of the objects we interact with the most, our phones are also particularly prone to catching germs, and according to scientists, considerably dirtier than a toilet seat. That’s why, when mophie unveiled a wireless charger with a UV sanitizer, I was eager to put it to the test.

At a quick glance, the nifty gadget is slightly bigger than a dual wireless charging pad. Its sanitizer is located underneath a lid and, according to its maker, can remove common surface bacteria almost completely (up to 99.99%, to be precise) via a UV-C light — a known tool for disinfecting surfaces. The process is quick (takes about 5 minutes), quiet, and it doesn’t involve heat or liquids.

Setting up and using the device is as easy as it gets. Once plugged into a power outlet (it comes bundled with a USB-C cable and a power adapter), the UV sanitizer is ready to go. Pressing its sole backlit button will begin a sanitizing cycle with a beep, and it ends with two.
Charging phones and other Qi compatible accessories, on the other hand, begins by simply placing them on the sanitizer’s lid. With a maximum power output of 10 watts, the device can rapidly charge compatible smartphones.
One of my favorite bits about the product is that, in addition to your phone, it can sanitize smaller items with nonporous surfaces. I used it for my wireless earbuds, my keys, my titanium wallet, my credit cards, and my contact-free multitool.
The product will set you back $80. But, considering it can simultaneously charge and sanitize, it’s worth the price tag to me.
Closing Argument: I used the mophie UV sanitizer to complement my smartphone’s daily cleaning routine. Its ability to sanitize not only my phone, but also other commonly used small items brought me even more, desperately needed peace of mind.
The accessory is backed by a 2-year warranty. In case you don’t need a wireless charger, consider this UV sanitizer by Invisible Shield — another ZAGG tech brand — for $20 less.
